The University of Alberta Wellness Services (University Health Centre) has posted information on infectious disease advisories (recently Zika Virus) and this lists symptoms, prevention and treatment advice. This page will be updated with any changes in the advisories.
If you are a researcher and plan on travelling where there is a known outbreak of disease, you should be following the UAlberta Off-Campus and Travel Policy, that lists the steps that you go through to travel and requires that you assess your risk and get the necessary approvals before departing. One of these steps includes checking Government of Canada's travel advisories before proceeding. Appendix B of the Off-Campus and Travel Policy is a risk matrix and within each category of risk includes a reference to the DFAIT travel warnings. Travellers should be aware that travelling despite these warnings can sometime void your insurance policies. All should check their exclusions in their various policies, including health coverage, life insurance, etc.
