They strongly recommend that anyone travelling in the backcountry take a course offered by a qualified avalanche instructor. The Complete Wilderness Emergency Care Course

Edmonton‐based company. Cyril Shokoples has taught successive
generations of Park Wardens. He and his teaching assistant developed a first aid course for the wardens at Jasper National Park that was geared toward Mountain Rescue Response capability combined with remote setting patient care. He comes highly recommended, very well informed, a full ACMG Mountain Guide (also a past associate vice president), can guide alpine/rock/ice climbing or skiing, and has worked extensively in Western Canada.

Courses held in an Edmonton Park - Levels 1, 2 and 3 combined and offered over a 3 day session.  Pre-requisite of Standard First Aid, Level C, through a government approved provider.
